Dynamics of Flight

Dynamics of flight mainly depends on four forces acting on the surface of an aircraft. They are LIFT, DRAG, THRUST and WEIGHT.

LIFT:
This is the component of force which acts perpendicular to the direction of flight it is undistributed steam. It acts upward always.

DRAG:
This is the component of force acting opposite to the direction of flight. It always resist the motion of flight. This is also known as air resistance.

THRUST:
This is the force acting towards the direction of flight. This is opposite to drag . This helps in the motion of flight.

WEIGHT:
This is the component of force acts perpendicular to the direction of flight but opposite to lift. It acts downward always.
There are three moment acting

  • PITCHING
  • ROLLING
  • YAWING
PITCHING:
This is the moment acting in the vertical plane. It is a positive moment nose of the aircraft goes upwards.

ROLLING:
The moment which tends to roll the aircraft about the flight direction.

YAWING :
The moment which tends to rotate the aircraft about lift direction i.e to swing the nose from one side to another.
