Taking a cue from the exceeding popularity of lawn tennis, people thought to recreate the magic indoors. Various board and dice games began circulating till David Foster came with ingenious idea of playing lawn tennis on a table and named it table tennis.
From Victorian England, it sprung its shoots and was destined to be a game monopolized by Chinese. In the beginning, pimpled rubber was used till sponge bats came. Now speed glue is used to give table tennis racquets more strength and bounce.
It is a game played best in singles; however double games are also on offer. The game is played in sets of five with the winner needing to win three. Each set carries 21 points. The game needs terrific hand-eye coordination and quick feet movement. Players have to specially master the art of serving.
The game allows exercise for wrists and lower body naturally. It can be played at any age and requires minimum infrastructure (soccer is the best in that department). You should personalize your bat as different bats work out differently. Keeping a soft grip helps you as you will need to be flexible playing hard and delicate shots. And never underestimate
